Tiedäthän, ei ollut pöytään mitään, siksi läksin käsityöni myymään. Rosa. Ah, sen hienon virkkauksen, Anna! Anna. Mies vain pari markkaa antoi siitä, leipää niillä ostin, hieman lihaa. Rosa. Hohoi, äiti ritarin on rouva, sentään elää saamme köyhyydessä! Anna. Aikaisin vei meiltä taaton tuoni... mutta veljemme kun vaurastuvat, niin, he, väkevät, se usko, Anna, puuttehesta meidät suojelevat! Rosa. Jospa olisimme rikkaat rouvat! Anna. Aina tuulentupia teet, Rosa! Rosa. Linna kullasta ja marmorista . , . Anna. Sellaista en, sisko, ole ajatellut. Rosa. Puvut silkistä ja sametista, jalokiviä ja koristeita! Anna. Oikeata onnea ei aina anna rikkaus, oi, minä sieltä mielelläni kotiin palajaisin, äidin huolet keventää jos voisin onnen pienilläkin uutimilla! Mutta keitto mun on katsottava. (Menee.) Rosa. Aina täytyy seista lieden luona, kaikki työt ja hommat itse tehdä. Oisimmepa rikkaat, silloin voisi pitää kokin, pari käskyläistä... Kamarneitsyt ei myös haitaks oisi. Äiti (tulee.) Palannut jo, lapsi, kylvystäsi? Rosa. Kylvystäkö, äiti!... Kävelyllä pistäysin vain hieman huvikseni. Asumme niin hirvittävän yksin, ihmisiä konsaan näkemättä. Äiti, Se on totta... vaan nyt, tyttäreni, onni koittaa... osan uuden suopi. Rosa. Onni, äiti, sano mikä onni! Joku rikas, vanha sukulainen kai on suuret lahjat lähettänyt? Äiti. Ei, saat laittautua morsioksi, ritari Siniparran puolisoksi. Rosa. Hänen!... Jotta hän mun hautaan veisi, kuten ennen kuusi vaimoansa? Äiti. Hän on kyllä kuusi vaimoansa ennen sua, lapsi, hautaan vienyt. Mutta vanhemmasta Anna siskostasi on hän aivan liian kauhistava, siksi on hän valinnut nyt sinut. Rosa. Niin, tuo suuri, hirmun suuri parta lapsina jo meitä kauhistutti... onko hällä paljo rikkautta? Äiti. Suuret maat on linnan ympärillä, ajaa aina parivaljakolla. Rosa. Linnan rouvaks, äiti, tahdon tulla, vähät hänen siniparrastansa! Äiti. Hyvä, lapseni, on kaikki selvä. Jalo ritari jo vuottaa palvoin salissamme sulta vastausta. Lähden, ilmotan sen heti hälle. (Menee.) Anna (tulee). Sisko, onko totta se?! Rosa. Entä sitten, siskonen? Anna. Menet Siniparralle. Rosa. Nähtävästi tiedät sen. Anna (kauhulla). Kuinka voit, en käsitä, hälle vaimoks lähteä! Rosa. Oi, kun linnaan pääsen vaan, palvelijat varpaillaan käskyjäni vartovat, ovat nöyrät, taipuisat. Istun kultavaunuissa, ajan tuulen vauhdilla, silkkipuku ylläni, kultakoristeissani... Anna. Ah, se vähät hyödyttää, jos on aina pimeää... Rosa, Sisko hyvä, lempeä, kylliks' sain jo kärsiä karvautta puuttehen, nyt mä voitan rikkauden... (Ovelle koputetaan.) Hän, ah, hän jo saapuvi! Anna. Olet aina laisesi! (Anna menee. Siniparta tulee toisesta ovesta. Hän on roteva ja väkevä, parta musta, silmät salamoivat, yllä räikeävärinen puku, punaista tai keltaista mustalla pohjalla.) Siniparta. Siniparraks sanotahan — Rosa (hieman hätääntyneenä). Nimes kyllä tunnetahan! Siniparta. Mull' on linna, taitaa olla sekin tuttu tienoholla, siellä liehuu lähelläni kymmenittäin väkeäni. Rosa. Mahtisi jo tiedän kerta... Siniparta. Hovini on kahden verta; kun mä kuljen, kumarassa, maassa asti matalassa, asujan on linnan, tuvan, kunnes saapi nousta luvan. Rosa (itsekseen). Kerskuu aika pöhkön lailla! Siniparta. Salini ei mitään vailla, kymmenittäin ikkunoita, sit'ei suuruudessa voita ykskään sali maailmassa. Rosa. Siellä on kuin taivahassa! Siniparta. Sentään siellä yksinäni ikävä on elämäni. Kuudes vaimo — kummallista — päätti siten elämänsä: manteleita syödessänsä juuttui sydän mantelista hälle kurkunpäähän juuri... Rosa. Ah, on teillä suru suuri. Siniparta. Miksi?... Jälkeen vaimon kuuden otan seitsemännen uuden, senpätähden tulin tänne kysymähän kätöstänne. Rosa (epäröiden). Liian suuri ilo mulle... Siniparta. Eihän kieltoa vain tulle...? Sanottava vain on sinun, jos pois luotas työnnät minun... Rosa. Niinkö sun on kiirehesi viemään toista vaimoksesi? Siniparta, Valko otsa, silmän sini minulle on mielihini... Sano, kautta Jumalan, oletko mun morsian? Rosa. Olen... siinä vastaus! Siniparta. Hyvä! Helmikoristus sulle mulla valmis on... käsi pistä ojohon! Rosa (syrjään, ojentaen kätensä). Mua aivan värisyttää! Siniparta. Miksi sua täristyttää? Partaniko? Sano pois! Rosa. Ken niin lapsellinen ois! Rukous on mulla yksi... Siniparta. Saat sen varmaan täytetyksi! Rosa. Annan, rakkaan sisareni, tahtoisin mä ratokseni linnahasi mukanain. Siniparta. Suostuttu, hän tulkoon vain! Utelias ei liene hän? Rosa. Siitä vastaan hengellän? Siniparta. Uteliaisuutta vihaan. Rosa. Hän on vastakohta ihan, aina tyyni, hiljainen, miellyt varmaan hänehen. Kolme veljeäkin mulla maailmall' on harhailulla... Toivoni on hartahimpi, joskus heitä nähdä... Siniparta. Impi! Tulkoot milloin haluavat, ilon puuskat lapsettavat mua aivan kerrassaan. Tule tänne istumaan! Rosa. Äiti varmaan — luvallanne — sanan vaihtais kerallanne. (Rientää pois.) Siniparta (yksin, kävelee huoneessa edestakaisin). Nyt ei auta vitkastella eikä kauan tuumiskella! Utelias hän jos oisi, silloin kadota hän voisi lailla edeltäjän kuuden: jos taas jättää salaisuuden urkkimatta peiton alta, nähköön päivän taivahalta elon iltaan paistavan. Äiti (tulee). Jalo ritari, ilolla kuulin mä sen... Siniparta. Että minusta sait vävypoikasen! No niin, mua tyttäres miellyttää, ilovirtenä mielensä läikkyää. Äiti. Saattaa hieman kainoksua. Siniparta. Kyll' on aikaa tasottua. Äiti. Häistä hieman... laittamista paljon on... Siniparta. Viis laitoksista! Häät mä laitan linnassani komeat ja kotonani vuotan teitä viikon päästä enkä kulunkeja säästä. Siis te silloin saavutte? Äiti. Kyllä, hyvä herrani, ritarini, poikani! Siniparta. Voikaa hyvin siihen asti toivoo vävy hartahasti. Äiti. Samoin teille, herrani, ritarini, poikani! TOINEN SEIKKAILU. (Sali Siniparran linnasssa, loistavasti sisustettu ja koristettu. Kolme ovea; yksi niistä vie perälle, toinen ulos parvekkeelle, kolmas ovi on kullalla silattu.) Rosa. Siniparta. Sittemmin Anna. Siniparta. Miellyttääkö linnani? Rosa. Miellyttää niin suuresti! Muhkeaa ja äveriäistä... mutta hieman yksinäistä. Siniparta. Mitä?... Eikö siskosi riitä sulle seuraksi? Rosa. Älä suutu, hyvähän mun on olla, mielessän mietin vain, miks kuunansa emme käy me vieraissa. Siniparta. Oi, se naisen viekkaus! Vieraita on kaipaus! — Nyt mä lähden linnastani, sull' on kaikki hallussasi. Voitko olla tyynenä? Rosa. Hyvin olen viihtyvä! Siniparta. Tässä, avaimet sä ota... kaksitoista kammioita, täytenänsä kallehia mestarien teoksia, täällä on sun nähdäksesi, kule aivan valtoinesi! Rosa. Kiitos!... Miten ihanaa! Siniparta. Tästä kyyhkyseni saa vielä yhden avaimen, tämän soman, kultaisen... Haluatko kuunnella, mihin pääsee ovesta? Rosa. Onko se siis salaisuus... Siniparta. Se on suuri salaisuus! Tää on kultaovehen, sulle kerran näytin sen. Älä mene oven luo... onnettuuden vain se tuo. Rosa. Kun sen kerran kiellät vaan, niin en oveen katsokaan. Siniparta. Palaja en kotihin muutamihin päivihin. Rosa. Saako luvan kysyä, mi on matkan määränä? Siniparta. Huvikseni metsästän, utelias ystävän! Hyvästi nyt jättää saan, sillä mua vuotetaan. Rosa. Tulen puistoon saattamaan... Siniparta. Ei, jää paikoillesi vaan! Ystäväni, minne päin menen, et voi nähdä näin... Rosa. Kun sä poistut luotani, joudu pian takaisi! Siniparta (menee ovelle, jossa hän kääntyy ja huutaa uhkaavalla äänellä). Jos sä rikot käskyni, seuraa siitä surmasi! KOLMAS SEIKKAILU. (Sama sali kuin edellä.) Rosa. Anna. Sittemmin Siniparta. Rosa. Nyt kaikki paikat nähtyäni, on ikävätä mielestäni. Anna. Kaikesta loistaa rikkautta, pöydätkin silkkaa hopeaa, ja ruudut välkkyy kirkkautta — jo tyytyväinen olla saa! Rosa. Oon väsynyt, en tyydy siksi. Anna, Oot surullinen, mutta miksi? Rosa. Suruinen ain' on yksinäinen. En tahdo mitään udella, — mut tuokin metsä petäjäinen on kaiultansa kamala. Anna. Sä itket mielin kaihoovaisin! Rosa. Oi, jospa äidin nähdä saisin! Mä pelkään, Anna, alinomaan mieheni torailee niin kovaan. Anna. Jo aavistin... mut vapahasti oot kuullut lumolaulua, rikkauden loisto viekkahasti on kietonut sun paulalla. On katumus nyt myöhäinen, saat ottaa toisen sävelen. Sä tullos, sisko, kauniita kuvia voimme katsella! Rosa. Väsynyt silmän niihin on. Anna. Tahdotko tulla puistohon? Rosa (salaperäisesti). Sä ootko nähnyt kultaoven. Anna. Jo aikoja sen nähnyt olen! Rosa. Tää ovi polttaa mieltäni, se kaunehimmat peittävi... on kultaa siellä kasottain ja timantteja sadottain. Anna. On niitä yllinkyllin sulla! Rosa. Avainta vain ei ole mulla... Mä hukkasin sen, onneton... Ah, erehdyin, se täällä on! Anna. No, mikäs sitten vielä hätä! Rosa. Mut jos se koskee elämätä? Hän kielsi hengen uhalla... Anna. Kun et siis saa sä avata... Rosa. Mun täytyy, minä tahdon niin... Anna. Se jättäkäämme toistaisiin. Rosa. Ei, kovemmin kuin milloinkaan nyt mielen' palaa avaamaan! Ah, siskokulta, usko pois, ei muuten mulla rauhaa ois! Anna. Oi, kuule, pyydän sinua...! Rosa. Mun täytyy hieman vilaista! (Menee ovea kohden.) Anna (koettaa häntä pidättää). Oi mieltäs malta, onneton! Rosa. Vain vilahdus, niin rauha on. (Hän avaa oven, vilkaisee sisään ja päästää hätäisen parahduksen.) Anna. No, mitä, sisko rakkahin? Rosa. Oh... petetty mä olenkin! Anna. Sä mitä näit, oi siskoni? Rosa. Ah, kauhu täyttää sieluni! On verta täynnä lattia, ja miekka seisoo nurkassa, seinällä vierivierenään kuus päätä riippuu verissään. (Hän vaipuu siskonsa syliin.) Anna. On miehes tehnyt, poloinen, siis murhan kuusinkertaisen! Rosa. Pois, kiireimmästi täältä pois, murhaajan linnasta pois, pois! Anna. Ah, se ei ole helppoa, on teljet joka portilla. Rosa (epätoivoissaan). Siis jälella vain kuolema! Anna. Sittemmin Robert. Anna. Siniparta (seisoo kultaisen oven edessä miekka kädessään). Niin, oma syysi kaikki on... nyt tule alle tutkaimen! Rosa. Oi, ällös olko tunnoton, suo mulle vielä hetkinen! (Siniparta katoaa kultaiseen huoneeseen.) Oi, sisko, näätkö vieläkään? Anna (parvekkeelta). Vain puut ja sini-ilman nään, etäällä tomupilvi on. Siniparta (näyttäytyy ovessa). Nyt on jo aika, onneton! (katoaa kultaiseen huoneeseen.) Rosa. Mä tulen. (Sisarelleen.) Näätkö vieläkään? Anna. Ratsailla kaksi miestä nään kiidättäin linnan portille. Siniparta (astuu esiin ja lähestyy Rosaa). Nyt, nainen, lopussa on se? Rosa (epätoivoissaan). Oon kuollut, kun he joutuvat! (Siniparta tarttuu häneen ja laahaa hänet kultaisesta ovesta näkymättömiin. Roope. Ei, mutta jalo ritari! (Anna tulee parvekkeelta. Hän ja Rosa seuraavat näyttämön ulkopuolella tapahtuvaa taistelua levottomin elein, rientäen milloin ovelle, milloin taasen takaisin.) Siniparta. Sä poika maitopartainen, lyön sun kuin heinän helpehen! Roope. Näin poika maitoparta lyö... sun nielköön tuonen ikiyö! (Kuuluu raskas kaatuminen.) Siniparta. Voi, lempo... kaikki hukassa! Roope. Niin surmasi sait minulta! — Käy, veli, luokse renkien! (Kuuluu haarniskoidun miehen askeleet. Roope astuu sisään peräovesta.) Käyn voittajana sisällen. Anna. Pelastit meidät hädästä. Roope.
